South West  France self catering gite

The self catering gite accommodation at Mas de Paul in the South West of France, forms part of a beautifully restored stone farmstead. The gite is located in the hilltop hamlet of St Martial in the department of Tarn et Garonne, approximately mid-way between the cities of Cahors and Toulouse in the SW of France. The nearest town (4kms) is Laguepie at the confluence of the rivers Viaur and Aveyron; here you will find a wide range of amenities including shops, bars and restaurants. Laguepie has a charming Sunday market as well as regular events which are held throughout the Summer season. The gite accommodation is set high above the valley floor in spectacular countryside with deeply incised wooded valleys of oak and sweet chestnut trees , the self catering gites are close to the dramatic Gorges de L’Aveyron and are also centrally located to some of the most beautiful small towns in South West France. This area of the SW is ideally suited to walking with many delightful trails and is also a perfect base for mountain biking with lots of challenging terrain.

The weather in the SW can be very hot in Summer  and you may prefer to spend time lazing round the gites by the south west facing pool or leisurely exploring the beautiful countryside and small towns, away from the crowds associated with some neighbouring areas. Spring and Autumn can often be ideal for walking and biking holidays; in Spring the meadows are covered in wild flowers and in Autumn the heavily wooded slopes take on dramatic hues.

Do find time for the local bars and restaurants, the south west area is well known for its cuisine with duck (foie gras) and game being very important local ingredients. The markets are full of regional produce and are crammed with seasonal fruit and vegetables, locally produced cheeses, 'saucissons' etc

There is plenty to do in the local region in addition to exploring the local countryside there are caves that are open to the public throughout the area, there are numerous castles to explore and there is kayaking on the Aveyron River and golf at Albi.

The self catering gite accommodation is very flexible and  consists of three  two bedroom cottages which can be let individually out of the high season but are ideally suited to larger groups renting together. Larger groups of 12 or more can book all three cottages and benefit from a 20% discount (an additional  1 bedroom gite is available on request to groups thus accommodating up to 14!) and enjoy exclusive use of all the facilities (great for several families holidaying together). Each of the cottages is completely self-contained and each has its own private terrace and/or garden; the courtyard is completely enclosed by farm buildings and barns and is a wonderful place to sunbathe in the day and to sip drinks in the evening when the stone walls are subtly lit. There is a large outdoor table and gas fired barbecue in the courtyard for outside dining. A games room (new this year!) with cloakroom is accessed from the central courtyard. Here you will find a large screen projection TV with DVD and access to UK satellite channels as well as a table football machine etc.
